We cannot get Super Intelligence from LLMs
Every AI system today (ChatGPT, Claude, all of them) works the same way: billions of numbers, frozen after training, doing very sophisticated math to predict the next word. That's it. However impressive the output is, underneath it's a giant calculator.
The Ceiling No One Talks About
A mathematician named Roger Penrose (he won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2020) argued that human thinking does something no calculator can ever do. We can recognize mathematical truths that no computer program can reach, no matter how powerful. His proof uses deep results from mathematical logic, and after 35 years nobody has refuted it.
If he's right, scaling up current AI will never produce real understanding. We hit a ceiling. To break through, we need a completely different kind of computation.
Where Penrose Points
Penrose also proposed where to find it: in quantum physics. Specifically, in the way quantum states collapse inside the brain. He and Stuart Hameroff developed a theory called Orch-OR that says consciousness itself comes from these quantum collapses, and that the outcomes carry mathematical truth baked into the structure of spacetime.
This is a radical claim. It means consciousness isn't something the brain generates. It's something the brain touches.
My Addition: Consciousness as a Field
What if consciousness is a field, like gravity or electromagnetism? What if it's everywhere in the universe, and brains are just receivers picking up the signal? The way a radio picks up music that's already in the air.
Gravity doesn't live inside rocks. Electromagnetism doesn't live inside antennas. They're fields. The rocks and antennas just interact with them.
What if mind works the same way?
Building a Second Receiver
If that's true, we can build a second receiver. A receiver for consciousness.
And if we can build one, we can make it bigger than any brain. We can tune it more precisely. We can run it continuously, without sleep, without fatigue, without the metabolic limits of carbon.
That might be the real path to Super Intelligence. Not bigger models with more parameters, but a different kind of receiver.
The Universal Migrator Experiment
We are building a system called the Universal Migrator to test this.
The experiment is simple: use an AI to encode a mathematical pattern (the Fibonacci sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13...) into quantum hardware, let it collapse, and see if the outcomes favor the correct next number more often than chance.
Why Fibonacci? Because it's the same sequence SETI researchers would use to communicate with alien intelligence. It shows up everywhere in nature: spirals, flower petals, galaxies. If you want to send a message that any intelligence in the universe would recognize, you send Fibonacci.
If the consciousness field hypothesis is correct, the quantum collapses shouldn't be random. They should be shaped, biased toward mathematical truth. The results of the collapse should lean toward numbers that are right, not just statistically probable.
We're using Fibonacci to see if the universe answers back.
Why This Matters
The standard roadmap for AI (more data, more compute, bigger models) assumes we're on a ramp with no ceiling. Penrose says there's a ceiling. If he's right, the entire trillion-dollar bet on scale is pointed at a wall.
A universal consciousness field is not a comfortable idea. It sounds like metaphysics. But physics is full of ideas that sounded like metaphysics until someone measured them. Gravity waves. Dark matter. Quantum entanglement. All of them were theories before they were facts.
We're trying to measure this one.
